A few weeks ago, we asked Flyers to send in their favorite local drinks and bites for Hispanic Heritage Month — and our readers did not disappoint. We’ve put together a comprehensive list based on your responses and as an added bonus, took it upon ourselves to go out and try a few of your recommendations. Look out for that video on Instagram and Facebook.
Happy eating!
Huaraches al pastor at Doña Gloria’s
Up for a challenge? Try finishing an entire huarache al pastor that is sure to leave your tummy full from Doña Gloria’s food truck. The masa-based Mexican street food comes with seasoned pork or any meat of your choice, refried beans, lettuce and topped with cheese and sour cream. Reader Anna T. told us via Instagram that it goes best paired with the green salsa.

Doña Gloria’s food truck is located in the parking lot of Nam-Hai Oriental Food Market near 21st and Garnett. The large trailer and picnic seating area is hard to miss! It is open every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, they stay open until 4 a.m. for late night cravings.Â
Ceviche at Inkanto
If you haven’t tried Peruvian ceviche you’re missing out. Reader Ana S.’ favorite ceviche is made fresh at Inkanto Peruvian Cuisine. We tried the ceviche mixto and got a bonus bite of the lomo salteado. Surf and turf if you will.

Inkanto Peruvian Cuisine is located at 2118 E. 3rd St. and is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The restaurant is closed Monday.
Flautas de cochinita pibil at La Coshi
A crunchy Mexican staple, flautas come in an assortment of fillings but if you had to try just two, reader Viviana G. suggests you order the cochinta pibil or potato mix. Cochinita pibil is slow-roasted pork hailing from the Yucatan peninsula.
La Coshi is located at 5104 S. Mingo Road. and is open every day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. except for Sundays.
Aguas frescas at Viva la Vida
The heat of summer might be over (here’s hoping it stays that way), but Viva la Vida is still serving up refreshing aguas frescas, which reader Daniela R. says are the best. The food truck also serves traditional Mexican snacks and fresh ceviche.

Viva la Vida is located at 6136 S. Peoria Ave. and is open from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. every day except for Tuesdays.
Casa enchiladas at Casa Amigos

Mangonada at Neveria y Paleteria La Tropical
Craving a sweet treat? Might we suggest a mangonada from one of east Tulsa’s staples, Neveria y Paleteria La Tropical. A mangonada comes with mango ice cream, topped with fresh-cut mangoes and dressed up with chamoy and TajĂn for a pinch of spice and tanginess. Reader Jesse C. also suggested Flyers try the fresas con crema, fresh cut strawberries paired with sweet cream made in house.
Neveria y Paleteria La Tropical has locations at 3151 S. 129th E. Ave. and 5907 E. Admiral Place. The eastside location is open every day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., while the Admiral shop is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Huevos rancheros at La Lupita
Feeling breakfast? Try the huevos rancheros at La Lupita. A traditional Mexican breakfast staple, La Lupita offers the egg dish bathed in your choice of red or green salsa with a side of potatoes and refried beans. Reader Tameko C. says “this dish is so simple, but craveable and fresh!”
La Lupita is located at 6122 S. Garnett Road. Suite E in Broken Arrow. It is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Breakfast tacos at Mary’s Tamales
Speaking of breakfast, we’ve got one more item to add to your morning radar. Grab a breakfast taco at Mary’s Tamales. Reader Andrea T.’s go-to is the egg, bean and cheese breakfast taco. The tortillas are made in house so you’ll always get a fresh one.

Pupusas at Las Tres Fronteras
Tucked away at 21st and Memorial you’ll find Las Tres Fronteras, a restaurant offering Honduran food, Mexican snacks and El Salvadorean pupusas. According to reader Logan M., the pupusas “are the best in the city.” Order from a variety of fillings, dress up with the pickled cabbage and salsa and enjoy!

Las Tres Fronteras is located at 7940 E. 21st St. They are open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Wet burrito at El Rio Verde
Finally, if you grew up in Tulsa (much like myself), you know that El Rio Verde is a staple. I remember going out with my parents to grab a bite after church or simply when we were in the neighborhood. Luckily, I’m not the only one that recognizes this absolute Tulsa gem.
Audience and membership director Clara Stewart’s order is a wet burrito, a burrito filled with whatever your heart desires and smothered in salsa.
