Community newsroom. Digital publication. Nonprofit organization. Book club? That’s right, Flyers. We’re bringing Tulsans together to read, discuss, and connect over books about Tulsa or by Tulsans. Whether you’re a seasoned reader or just getting back into books, everyone is welcome.
What We’re Reading

Our June selection is “Oklahoma Tough: My Father, King of the Tulsa Bootleggers” (OU Press) by Tulsa poet Ron Padgett, who wrote about his charming and funny father, Wayne Padgett.
Wayne was also one of Oklahoma’s most elusive bootleggers and career criminals. From the 1960s into the 1980s, he operated out of Tulsa as a high-ranking member of the outfit known as the Dixie Mafia. Ron tells the inside story of his notorious father and of how he earned his reputation as a Robin Hood ,“King of the Bootleggers.”

Pizza Party
Many adult readers will remember the childhood endeavor of reading enough books to earn a personal pan pizza.
We’re putting our own spin on that and throwing a pizza party at the end of the year for those who attend six or more book club meetings this year. February attendees only have five more to go!
Be sure to sign in at the next meeting.
About the Book Club
Each month, executive editor Gary Lee and food, arts & culture editor Tim Landes host a conversation around a book with local ties. This isn’t an author book talk, it’s a chance to connect with fellow Tulsans and explore our community’s history together.
Expect a wide variety of books and maybe a few surprises along the way.
