For a fifth time, Tulsa City Council District 7 voters chose Lori Decter Wright to represent them with 57% of the vote Tuesday — enough to win the three-person race outright.
Out of 4,798 ballots cast, Decter Wright received 2,752 votes. Meanwhile, candidate Dave Perry came in second place with 1,705 votes, making up about 36% of the electorate, and Kenny Wogoman garnered 341 votes, totaling about 7% of the vote.
Decter Wright, who serves as CEO and general director of Tulsa Opera, thanked her voters for their continued support.
“I’m deeply grateful to the people of District 7 for once again placing their trust in me to represent them at City Hall,” she told the Flyer in a statement. “Since 2018, I have been accessible, independent and willing to ask the tough questions while never losing sight of the everyday issues that matter most to the people I serve.
“Tonight’s victory is a vote of confidence in all that we have achieved together and I’m ready to continue advocating for a safer and more prosperous Tulsa.”
Decter Wright stated her focus for the next two years in the district, which reaches as far north as East 41st Street, east to South 145th East Avenue, west to South Sheridan Road and south to East 101st Street.
“There is still much more to do,” she said. “My focus is continuing to strengthen our emergency response system and public safety, increase accountability and transparency, address homelessness and housing challenges, and make sure basic city services and infrastructure keep pace with the needs of our neighborhoods. I’ll also continue pushing for responsible budgeting and making sure taxpayer dollars are delivering real and lasting results for Tulsans.”
In a statement after the election, Perry said his message resonated with voters but he “just didn’t get the expected turnout” at the polls.
