We don’t believe in reporting the news from our desks. Led by Community Journalism Director Lexi Goodnough, our staff are on the ground, meeting residents where they live, work and play.
Here is where you can find us the week of Oct. 12-17. Got an idea of where we should head next? Email us at lexi@tulsaflyer.org about how we can connect with your community.
Meet the candidates: Join us for a free, public forum with candidates for Oklahoma governor, superintendent and attorney general Oct. 13 at the University of Tulsa’s Lorton Performance Center, 550 S. Gary Place. Find more details here.
Coffee and Council: Lexi and Documenters assignment editor Sam Stockley will convene Documenters (and perhaps a special reporter guest) at 4 p.m. Oct. 14 at Coracle Coffee, 314 S. Cincinnati Ave., for Coffee and Council. We’ll discuss the week’s Tulsa City Council agenda items before walking to City Hall and attending the meeting.
Documenters orientation: Interested in getting paid to become civically engaged? We are hosting our final in-person Tulsa Documenters orientation of the year from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 at Circle Cinema, 10 S. Lewis Ave. Register in advance here.
Community Pride gathering: Join the Flyer and Oklahoma Eagle from noon to 3:30 p.m. at 101 E. Archer St. for a creative gathering for 2SLGBTQIA+ community members. Bring flyers, brochures or stickers for the shared resource table and take part in a barter market—no money necessary.
We’ll also have programming from Black Queer Tulsa, a connection circle and letter writing to community members. The event will wrap up with an open mic and finish just in time to catch the Tulsa Pride parade starting at 4 p.m. RSVP is required here.
