Jenks Public Schools has $20.3 million more to spend on renovations and transportation improvements after voters overwhelmingly approved a bond package Tuesday.
The pair of propositions — a $19.64 million construction bond and a $660,000 transportation bond — each earned more than 80% of votes. Jenks officials needed a 60% supermajority to move forward with the proposals.
The district, which enrolls more than 12,600 students across the south Tulsa area, doesn’t take the community’s support for granted, said Superintendent Stacey Butterfield.
“The passage of this bond demonstrates how the community believes in our vision and trusts the process we have in place to make these thoughtful, deliberate decisions with how we spend these dollars,” she said.
With money in hand, the district plans to add wrestling space to the Frank Herald Fieldhouse, expand its Freshman Academy, install air conditioning in school buses and renovate its tennis facility. The bond will also support district-wide purchases of technology, classroom furniture, textbooks, musical instruments and safety equipment.
