School districts across Tulsa County are preparing for a weekend winter storm. Many canceled weekend events before the snow arrived.

Higher ed closures

The University of Tulsa is closing at 3 p.m. Students are encouraged tp download the Safe UTulsa app for “real-time updates” about closures and emergency situations.

OSU-Tulsa classes are canceled after 4 p.m. Friday.

The OU-Tulsa campus closed at noon Friday and will remain closed through Sunday.

All Tulsa Community College campuses closed at 12:30 p.m. Friday. Afternoon and evening classes will be virtual Friday and Saturday.

Primary school districts

District spokespeople all recommend paying close attention to social media, emails and school websites for updates as the storm approaches and carries through the weekend.

Bixby Public Schools is open in-person Friday, with early release. All district events after 2 p.m. are canceled. 

“Current projections indicate that weather impacts will hold off until early evening,” the district’s announcement reads, “and because tomorrow is an early release day, we are confident we can hold school and get everyone home safely.”

Bixby will announce Sunday evening if Monday will be a traditional snow day.

Jenks Public Schools is open and in-person Friday.

Union Public Schools will release 40 minutes early Friday as part of the district’s pre-planned early release schedule, but all school-related events and activities are now canceled through the weekend. This includes the Union’s Robotics Rumble, which is now rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 21.

Owasso Public Schools is open. The district has already moved athletic events and recommends families stay in close contact with coaches or activity sponsors as scheduling continues to shift. 

Tulsa Public Schools is also open, but the district’s Service Academy Day originally set for Saturday is now rescheduled for Jan. 31.

Broken Arrow Public Schools is in session Friday. Spokeswoman Tara Thompson recommended Wednesday guardians check the contact information shared with the district “so that we can get in touch with them” as they make decisions in the coming days.
