East Tulsa-based nonprofit Avanzando Juntos will bring back its annual Construyendo Tulsa program in March with the aim of educating contractors about local resources.

Avanzando Juntos, an organization connecting entrepreneurs to startup capital and mentorship, will host the two-day event March 6-7.

Avanzando Juntos knows the community of contractors has the capacity to reach a new level, program coordinator Marcela Cornejo said. But most people don’t know what’s out there, including microloans and resources available through the City of Tulsa.

“I’m not going to show you how to put rocks or put flooring down, we’re going to show you how to navigate the city website, how to obtain permits … so your business can be considered for important city projects,” Cornejo said.

The program offers contractors technical assistance, mentorship and networking throughout both days. Avanzando Juntos will also continue mentoring post-program to help contractors address challenges and explore capital options.

To be eligible for the program, contractors must have operated their business for at least a year, be available for both days of the program and be an active participant in the programming.

You can register for the March event online. The program will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 6 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 7.

Construyendo Tulsa was created in 2022 after Hispanic construction business owners approached the organization about struggles with city registration, permitting, insurance and project pipelines.

Avanzando Juntos launched the first iteration the following year with a one-day workshop. The program took a pause in 2024 before returning last year with a two-day event.

The program is offered in Spanish. Business owners who don’t speak Spanish can still apply and the organization will bring an interpreter if needed.

Can’t make the March event? Avanzando Juntos plans to offer it again in October.
