Welcome to “On Call,” the Tulsa Flyer’s series following people on jobs requiring 24/7 coverage.
As summer progresses, the heat continues to put a strain on air conditioning units across the city. With near-record temps topping out well above 100 degrees, HVAC units are having trouble keeping up with the extreme heat.
Patrick Taylor, owner of Spartan Mechanical, services homes across the county and beyond. It’s a father-son business offering 24/7 heating and cooling services.
Spartan Mechanical also offers internships for students interested or enrolled in skilled trades, including plumbing and electrical. Taylor has helped young people get into trade schools.
“We want to help kids that don’t have an avenue of career,” Taylor said. “We want to give them an opportunity to come in and try all trades.”
Flyer photojournalist Milo Gladstein tagged along with Taylor as he added air conditioning into a sunroom and bedroom at a Broken Arrow home.
