Tulsa served more than 600 people in its first year providing a winter weather shelter.

CREOKS, a nonprofit organization providing behavioral health services, and the City of Tulsa partnered to open an inclement weather shelter for unhoused people and their pets in east Tulsa. The shelter, located at 7216 E. Admiral Place, opened last November before closing three weeks earlier than planned as temperatures rose in March.

City officials released numbers detailing the shelter’s impact Friday. The shelter served 632 individuals, including 234 people experiencing chronic homelessness, 59 seniors and 21 veterans.

Through CREOKS, people received case management and clinical services like primary care, therapy, Family Peer Recovery Support services and other outreach efforts.

Now, the city is turning toward other efforts to address homelessness. Tulsa leaders recently announced the groundbreaking of The Harbor, Tulsa’s first low-barrier shelter expected to open by the end of the year.
