Sitting right at the edge of Tulsa County is a heaping mound of mulch and firewood — free for the taking year-round.
The city’s mulch site at 2100 N. 145th E. Ave. is open to anyone, no matter where they live. But you should bring an axe and gloves. You have to split the wood and load it into your vehicle on your own.
Tulsa residents can also drop off tree branches, clippings and leaves for free — but there is a fee for non-Tulsa residents and commercial businesses. You’ll have to show your driver’s license or a current city utility bill at the time of dropoff.
Logs can’t be longer than 24 inches or have concrete or fence attached to them.
The mulch site is closed Wednesdays but open every other day from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
