Tulsa was buzzing since it was announced the Tony Award-winning “The Outsiders: A New Musical” was kicking off its nationwide tour in the city where it all began nearly six decades ago.

Tulsans celebrated the launch Oct. 8 with the cast, crew and VIPs walking the red carpet outside the Tulsa Performing Arts Center.

Notably, the musical’s Tony Award-winning director, Dayna Taymor, joined the crowd for the premiere along with local filmmaker and “The Lowdown” creator Sterlin Harjo, Danny Boy O’Connor and Donnie Rich of the Outsiders House Museum.

As part of the festivities, The Avery Kitchen & Bar hosted a VIP patio party with an “Outsiders”-themed menu. Fans snapped pics of the classic book cover projected on the curtains pre-show. The musical was a huge hit with a standing ovation for the cast to close out the night.

The tour wrapped its Tulsa performances Oct. 12, with plans to return in December 2027. Next up are stops in Nashville, Austin and San Antonio.
