SENIOR REPORTER
Reports to: Managing Editor
The Tulsa Flyer is looking for an experienced, accomplished storyteller and reporter to find stories that inform and enlighten. We’re looking for someone who is well sourced, who understands that Tulsa is made up of a wide array of diverse neighborhoods and communities and who wants to tell those stories.
We’re looking for someone who understands that accountability journalism happens in data, but also happens in questions during interviews. We want someone who can write a beautiful obit about a community leader on Tuesday and take the mayor to task on Wednesday. The ideal candidate will have Tulsa or Oklahoma ties, demonstrated reporting chops and be fearless.
This isn’t an entry-level position and the expectations for story development and execution will be high. We don’t want a columnist; we want a storyteller who understands that details drive stories and good writing draws in the audience.
Who are we?
The Tulsa Flyer is a non-profit news publication in Tulsa, Oklahoma that launched this past October. We believe in journalism, in Tulsa and in creating a strong, community-based journalism ecosystem.
Essential Functions:
- Produce stories that reveal harm and hold people and institutions responsible for it.
- Find and report stories that are people-driven, community-oriented and stories about everyday heroes.
- Practice accountability journalism that follows the money and reveals or explains misuse of taxpayer funds.
- Seek stories that detail solutions to systemic problems, creating opportunities for impact that improves community life.
- Coach less-experienced reporters.

- At least 10 years of experience in journalism
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $70,000-$85,000. We offer benefits including paid-for medical/dental/vision premiums, funds for continuing education and generous paid time off.
As a new organization, we endeavor to create a just and equitable compensation system. Salary ranges represent the full range of salaries and will be offered commensurate with experience.
