Supermercados Morelos, Oklahoma’s largest Latino-owned supermarket chain, is celebrating the opening of a new Tulsa store that company leaders say will expand access to fresh, affordable, and culturally relevant food while strengthening ties with the surrounding community.
The new store, located at 7830 E. Admiral Blvd., is the sixth Supermercados Morelos location in the Tulsa metro area and the company’s 11th store statewide. According to the company, the Admiral Boulevard location is already open to customers and offers authentic Mexican and Latin American products, fresh produce, an in-house bakery, and a full-service meat market featuring more than 40 cuts and marinated options.
An official ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., hosted by the Tulsa Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Community leaders, elected officials, and residents are invited to attend. A larger community celebration will follow from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., featuring free tamales and live mariachi music.
Tulsa Deputy Mayor Krystal Reyes is expected to attend, along with representatives from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and other local organizations. Reyes said the opening reflects both neighborhood investment and broader demographic growth in Tulsa.
“This new location represents real progress in expanding access to healthy, affordable food for all our residents,” Reyes said in a statement. She added that the investment supports better health outcomes and reflects the growth of Tulsa’s Hispanic community, which continues to contribute to the city’s economic and cultural vitality.
Company officials say the Admiral Boulevard store was selected to better serve families in East Tulsa by bringing culturally familiar products closer to where people live. Alfredo Trujillo, senior director of operations for Supermercados Morelos, said the new location strengthens the company’s ability to meet everyday needs while expanding its footprint in the city.
Supermercados Morelos traces its roots to 2003, when the company opened its first store on Northwest 23rd Street in Oklahoma City. The founders, members of the Ibarra family, envisioned a grocery store that would offer products reminding Hispanic customers of their homelands while creating a welcoming space grounded in tradition and community.
That founding mission continues to shape the company’s growth, according to the release. In addition to Tulsa locations, Supermercados Morelos operates stores throughout Oklahoma City and surrounding communities, employing local residents and serving a diverse customer base that extends beyond the Latino community.
The company says it aims to serve the entire community by maintaining competitive prices and high-quality standards while preserving cultural traditions through food, music, and shared celebration.
Organizers said Saturday’s event is intended not only to mark a business expansion but also to bring neighbors together. By combining a formal ribbon cutting with a public celebration, the company hopes to create a space for connection rooted in food, culture, and community.
Supermercados Morelos invited the public to attend the event and experience what it describes as the vibrant culture and traditions that define the brand as it continues to grow across Oklahoma.
