MARLE HYLTON
Development Manager
What I do here
I work on the development team, helping secure philanthropic support that makes our journalism possible. I write grant proposals and partner with donors who believe in independent local reporting. I love lifting up the stories of Tulsans whose lives are impacted by our journalism.
MY BACKGROUND
I began working in development in 2019 and have focused on helping mission-driven organizations secure philanthropic support. Prior to joining the Flyer, I worked in the social-impact fintech space, partnering with major national funders such as Bank of America, Wells Fargo, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Annie E. Casey Foundation. Across my roles, I’ve helped secure more than $15 million in funding.
Five years ago, I moved to Tulsa from the east coast with a desire to slow down and build a real community. I quickly fell in love with the city’s warmth, and I’m proud to call Tulsa home.
WHERE YOU CAN FIND ME IN TULSA
I am usually checking out live music. I love exploring Tulsa’s local talent at venues like Belafonte, Thelma’s Peach, The Bend and The Lowdown. You’ll also find me at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center supporting the theater shows that come through town.
JOURNALISTIC ETHICS
Journalism is one of the foundations of a healthy democracy. When news becomes overly nationalized or corporate, it can drift toward sensationalism rather than accountability. Strong local reporting keeps communities informed and able to make decisions that benefit everyone.
