A new fitness center catered to the needs of people with disabilities is coming to south Tulsa.
Special Strong, a franchise fitness center offering adaptive programs designed for children, teens and adults with a range of disabilities including autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and other conditions, will open its first location in South Tulsa later this month.
The grand opening is slated for 4 to 7 p.m. July 23 at Courts & Commons in Bixby.
The opening marks another development for facilities centered around improving the lives of Tulsans with disabilities.
In March, DEFY NeuroRehab Center opened its doors at 5950 E. 31st St. in midtown Tulsa. The center provides activity-based therapy, a more intensive alternative to traditional physical therapy that uses repetitive tasks to rebuild muscle memory.
The programming focuses on people with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, stroke or acquired brain injury and neurological and neuromuscular conditions including Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, transverse myelitis and pediatric neurology conditions. DEFT charges $100 a session after the $150 initial evaluation.
