Oklahoma’s State Department of Education is bringing back Blue Ribbon Awards for schools after the Trump administration took them away.
“These schools exemplify the very best of what education can achieve for students and communities,” Superintendent Lindel Fields said. “Their dedication to excellence reflects Oklahoma’s ongoing commitment to student success.”
As the school year began, U.S. Department of Education officials told states they would suspend the prestigious, longstanding National Blue Ribbon Schools program indefinitely.
Federal officials said at the time that state education departments should take on the awards, and Oklahoma is doing just that. The Blue Ribbon schools were certified for nomination before the program was stopped.
Here are the recipients:
- Amber-Pocasset High School in Amber
- Arapaho-Butler Elementary School in Arapaho
- Fort Gibson High School in Fort Gibson
- Lomega Elementary School in Omega
