There’s never a wrong moment to grab a slice of pizza, whether it’s after a long hard day of work or family fun on the weekend. It makes a fine breakfast too.

We compiled a list of our staff’s five favorite pizzerias in Tulsa to grab a nice cheesy slice of pizza. The pies are also pretty good, but we wanted to focus on getting you that perfect slice.

Andolini’s Pizzeria

1552 E. 15th St. (Cherry Street), 114 S. Detroit Ave., Unit D (Downtown), 12140 E. 96th St. N. #106 (Owasso), 500 Riverwalk Terrace, Suite 100 (Jenks), 222 S. Main St. (Broken Arrow)

Andolini’s Pizzeria is known for their giant slices of pizza served out of their food truck or one of their brick-and-mortar locations. My colleagues recommend asking for the pizza well done. There are multiple locations including the flagship restaurant on Cherry Street, which offers a great lunch deal that includes all-you-can-eat slices (or salad, or pasta). There’s also Andolini’s Sliced in downtown’s Blue Dome District that specializes in, well, slices.

Empire Slice House

417 N. Main St. (Downtown), 1502 E. 11th St. (Route 66)

Empire Slice House’s downtown location is a great spot to grab a slice before a Cain’s Ballroom show. The toppings are pretty traditional, but the pizza is always well executed and leaves a little flour dust on your fingers, like a good pizza should. When it comes to the variety of slices available, one colleague says: “Empire Slice all the way.” Visit the location’s Route 66ish shop while shopping in the Meadow Gold District.

NYC Pizza

4775 S. Harvard Ave.

NYC Pizza, a colleague tells me, is the best place to go for New York-style pizza. Pop in and order a giant slice or two, or pick up a pie that’s too big for the fridge. The restaurant has house specialties such as their cheese calzone, combo calzone and manicotti. If you like sauce, this is a good spot, as the slices are often a little more sauce-forward than some other places on this list.

Pie Hole Pizzeria

2708 E 15th. St.

Pie Hole Pizzeria’s slogan is “giant freakin’ pizza” and their menu is “dinosaur-approved.” Pie Hole is a hole-in-the-wall New York-style pizzeria on the east side of the Cherry Street district. This is the best place if you’re looking for something quick and on-the go, according to the Flyer crew. The small and quaint restaurant has limited seating, but features an incredible ranch and a great crust-to-sauce ratio. For those feeding a family, Pie Hole offers a two-topping large pizza for $12.99 on Tuesdays.

  • Cherry Street's Pie Hole Pizzeria has limited seating but plenty of slices and ranch to go around.
  • Pie Hole Pizzeria has been a Cherry Street institution for two decades.

Umberto’s Pizzeria

3147 S. Harvard Ave.

Umberto’s Pizzeria is a longtime favorite of many Tulsans that has long been known for its giant slices that start at $2.50. The locally-owned business opened in 1998 and earned a cameo in the third season of Sterlin Harjo’s “Reservation Dogs.” The restaurant prides itself for being “home to the best garlic knots.” On Mondays and Tuesdays, Umberto’s offers a two-topping 14-inch pizza for $12.

  • Since it opened in 1998, Umberto's Pizzeria has been serving Tulsans its specialty: pizza by the slice.
  • The family-owned Umberto's Pizzeria has earned the loyalty of many Tulsans with its New York-style slices.
